An account of a voyage in an RNYC yacht round the Western Islands, by an unidentified author, illustrated with photographs, water-colour drawings, and pen sketches of the party, crew and scenery.

The party includes Jessie, Rae, Fred and cousin A. Rintoul and others.

The crew were Captain Peter MacNichol, Jack MacMillan, John MacAllister, Ronald MacDonald, Malcolm Wilkie and Dugald MacGillivray.

This copy of the 'Voyage to America' seems to have been prepared for publication during Alexander Walker's first period of retirement, probably between 1815 and 1821, the original journal having been lost prior to 1815. For the most part this copy is in a hand other than Walker's with revisions by Walker himself as late as 1821.

Scope and Contents The visit, which covered the 10-11 August, corresponds in many respects to that paid by Henry Brougham, John Joseph Henry, and Charles Stuart about that time. The account may, therefore, have been written by one of that party, though not by Brougham himself, who landed on the island later than the writer - see folios 4, 91, and “Brougham's life and times” (Edinburgh, 1871), volume i, page 100. Scope and Contents From the Series: Vero L Bosazza, a South Africa geologist who worked in various African countries, became interested in the nineteenth century travellers there, especially David Livingstone. In retirement he wrote extensively on them, his personal knowledge of the localities giving his work a dimension frequently lacking in other scholarship. His writings are almost entirely unpublished, except in the sense that he distributed copies of them to various libraries with interests in African history....
