Lord Byron counted some of the leading writers of the day among his friends. Many are represented in this series of manuscripts and commonplace books, as too some members of his family. Included here, among others, are Lady Byron, Ada Byron, John Cam Hobhouse, Lady Caroline Lamb and Augusta Leigh.
Also included are manuscripts containing biographical information relating to Byron and his circle.

This series contains manuscripts and fair copies of some of the most important literary works of Lord Byron. Chiefly Byron’s narrative poems, including 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage', 'Don Juan' and 'Vision of Judgement', most are in his hand, although some of the fair copies are in the hands of Claire Clairmont and Mary Shelley. An article by Frederick Leveson Gower relating to 'Werner' is also included here.

A series of manuscripts and fair copies of poems by Lord Byron, mostly in his own hand but with some in the hands of Lady Byron (Anne Isabella Noel Byron), John Cam Hobhouse, Teresa Guiccioli, John Murray II and Mary Shelley. These are largely individual poems, distinct from the epic narrative poetry of Byron, and include 'English Bards and Scotch Reviewers' and 'Hebrew Melodies'.
Manuscripts mostly of and concerning 'The Bride of Abydos', a poem by Lord Byron., 1813-1899.
Byron’s poem 'The Bride of Abydos' was published by John Murray in 1813 and is one of the six 'Oriental Tales', or romances, by Byron. The poem was very successful and reached an 11th edition by 1818. Of the two volumes here relating to the work, the first concerns it exclusively, the second including also manuscripts of 'The Lament of Tasso' and the first draft of 'Werner'. The latter is accompanied by an article on 'Werner' by Frederick Leveson Gower.
