Two contiguous vellum fragments, together forming the upper part of a bifolium of an unidentified commentary on the Book of Proverbs., 14th century.

Scope and Contents The text is written in a small, heavily contracted hand. Probably about half of the bifolium survives, the width of each leaf being about 7½ inches, and the combined height (the fragments having been cut horizontally) being about 5 inches. The surviving portions of the commentary refer to Proverbs ii, 5-17, iii, 1-5, iv, 1-7, and iv, 10-11.The fragments were recovered from the binding of a copy (pressmark L.87.b) of ‘Sermons de M. Scope and Contents From the Series:

Born in New Zealand and educated in England, Sydney Goodsir Smith's first poems were in English, but he began writing in Scots in about 1940 and published several volumes of poetry. He also wrote for the stage, radio and television, as well as editing works of Robert Burns and Robert Fergusson. All these interests are reflected in his papers, but his work as an art critic survives in only a few fragmentary items.

Scope and Contents From the Series: Much of Ruthven Todd's prose writing, especially in his later life, was repetitious: he not only made numerous drafts and re-writings, but he used the same material in both books and articles. In particular, he made use of his own reminiscences in his work on Dylan Thomas and Fitzrovia as well as in the more autobiographical 'Dead and other friends and places'. Scope and Contents From ?16th century to 1970 this was the outer cover of Adv.MS.72.1.27.The text, written in Latin in two columns in a current book-hand tending towards rotunda, appears to be a commentary on a legal treatise. The quoted words and phrases are underlined in red, and spaces have been left (unfilled) for coloured initials. Ownership and other notes in Gaelic are written in a later hand in some of the margins.
