Correspondence of the Saint George Quartet Club, 1907-1908, 1910, 1932; with rules, 1903; and draft minutes etc., 1907-1932.
The Saint George Quartet Club was founded in 1874 to encourage the performance and appreciation of chamber music, principally for strings. The Club had a large repertoire and seems generally to have kept abreast of developments in music until at least the First World War. Around 1938 it was taken over by the Edinburgh Society of Musicians.

The papres includes ‘The rules and method practised in the Custome House of Leithe’, circa 1660; accounts of customs duties levied at, and of goods imported into, various Scottish ports; and a table, 1669, of customs officials’ fees.

Manuscript entitled, "Extrait d'un vieux Manuscrit contenant la forme et les Regles jadis observées aux combats a outrance qui se faisoient publiquem[ent] devant le Roy par sa permission"., 18th century.
The collection consists of manuscripts on a wide variety of subjects, many copied from manuscript or printed works, and chiefly dating from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Among them are some account-books, diaries, and other manuscripts of family interest (including a few concerning the 2nd Earl of Buckinghamshire, father of the 6th Marchioness of Lothian), but very few letters.

A few newspaper cuttings and menus for Club Dinners have been pasted in to the minute book (folios 1-96). Additional material includes occasional verses, further menus and illustrations, and an Appendix listing the membership between 1778-1939 (folios 103-107), Directions for the Club Officer (folios 109-110), an Inventory of Club property (folios 111-112), Directions for the Watchmen, (folios 112-113), and Club Rules (folio 114).
