'Summer Rites' was Ian Rankin's first, and unpublished, novel.

The manuscript contains a synopsis (folio 1), two typescripts of the text (folios 7, 81), and copies of the original and second (1952) versions of the Prologue and Interlude (folio 155).

Weir produced a high volume of written and spoken outputs during his career. The papers here relate to some of the results of that work, including his contributions to radio.

Concern Gaelic language and literature, and the family and general history of Lewis and Harris, North and South Uist and Wester Ross.

Memoirs concern Christian Mission service in Aden and South Yemen.
