Scope and Contents

This series contains papers, typescript drafts, and correspondence relating to two writing projects undertaken by Hinde in the 1970s-1980s, in which he sought to capture his personal and professional recollections for publication. Working titles included 'Confessions of a Climber' and 'The Ealeanora's Falcons'. Later correspondence also appears, written by Hinde's daughter Fiona Wild regarding the writing projects.

Scope and Contents From the Fonds:

Frank Roydon Richards, rector of Glasgow Academy from 1932 to 1959, devoted much of his retirement to the study of Linear B and especially the methods used by Michael Ventris, to whose decipherment he took a sceptical attitude. For comparative purposes he also studied the methods used by the decipherers of Hittite and other cuneiform scripts. The bulk of the material consists of transcripts of texts and summaries of books and articles, with critical comments by Richards interspersed.

Scope and Contents

Most of the typescripts are undated, and relatively few have been published. Some of the one-act plays were written for amateur drama groups competing in Scottish Community Drama festivals. Joe Corrie sometimes wrote more than one play with the same plot, and he would alter an act of a longer play to make it a one-act play in its own right. He also adapted some of his stage plays for broadcasting.

The versos of MS.27421, folios 119-141 contain parts of an early version of ‘The miracle at Cardenrigg’.
