For nearly 40 years Irving wrote letters to his British publishers, John Murray [II] and John Murray [III]. Irving developed a good relationship with the house of Murray, even dubbing John Murray [II] the 'prince of booksellers'. The correspondence includes discussion of his works, copyright issues, his travels, proposals for new works and discusses other publications. The letters here appear in 'Washington Irving and the house of Murray', edited by Ben Harris McClary.
