A previous travel diary documents the beginning of the trip, commencing on 12 October 1998. In this diary the artist charts her visits to Amboise, Fontevraud, Azay-le-Rideau, and Tours, noting sights of cultural interest including Leonardo da Vinci's tomb at Château d'Amboise and a chance encounter with a wedding party. The diary concludes with descriptions of the return journey to Britain; an overnight stay at the East India Club in London, and the train journey from King's Cross to Waverley Station, Edinburgh.
