Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows:

(i) Notes on Scottish history to 1660 under the following heads: ‘Of the Name Cl[i]m[ate] Dimension Division Air Soil Commodities Moneys Weights Measures and Buildings in Scotland`; `Of Succession of The nixt heirs to the Crown of Scotland`; `Of The manner of The Creating of the Nobility and Broughs of Scotland`; `Concerning The Ecclesiastical government of The Church`; `The Presbytries in Scotland`; `Of The Universities in Scotland`; `Writers of The Scottish history`; `The Admirable Curiosities Rarities and wonders in Scotland`. (ii) An alphabetical list of the knights and baronets of Scotland from 1625 to 1707. A note by Rose is appended. (Inv. XIX, Mac. 63.) (Folio 13.)

(iii) `The Genealogie of The Mackenzies preceeding the year 1661 by a person of qualitie`, that is, George Mackenzie, Earl of Cromartie (created 1703). Manuscript of the work written in 1669 and published in 1829. A roll of Parliament in 1700 is appended. (Inv. XX, Mac. 63.) (Folio 18.)

(iv) `Notes of Charters Relating to the familie of Rothes taken from the Charter Chist thereof and publict Records.` (Inv. XXIII, Mac. 64.) (Folio 31.)



(v) An alphabetical list of parish churches in Scotland, giving the patrons of some, and of the parishes which belong to various offices, 1757. (Inv. XXIV, Mac. 64.) (Folio 47.)

(vi) Letter, addressed `Right reverend Sir`, dated February 25, 1697, and signed `R.S.`, concerning religious patrimonies erected into temporal Lordships, with a list thereof. (Inv. XXVII, Mac. 65.) (Folio 49.)

(vii) Account of the families of Comin, Earls of Northumberland, of Mowbray, Barons Mowbray and Dukes of Norfolk, and of Howard, Dukes of Norfolk, from 1070 to 1700, circa 1700. (Inv. XXIX, Mac. 65.) (Folio 65.)
