Scope and Contents
The "Life" is comprised of ten folios of notes only. The notes on Lady Montagu have been augmented through the inclusion of press cuttings. In particular :
(1) a copy of the biography of Lady Montagu from "Chambers`s papers for the people", number 64 (pages 3 and 4, and part of page 5
and part of page 6, have been cut from the copy and pasted into the pages of the notebook); and,
(2) five portraits, printed from engravings by W. Greatbatch, extracted from a copy of "The letters and works of Lady Mary Wortley
Montagu" (London : Richard Bentley, 1837) :
(i) "Edward Wortley Montagu", in European dress;
(ii) "Edward Wortley Montagu", in Turkish dress;
(iii) "Lady Mary Wortley Montagu", in Turkish dress;
(iv) "Anne Wortley Montagu"; and,
(v) "Mary, Countess of Bute".
