For nearly 40 years Irving wrote letters to his British publishers, John Murray [II] and John Murray [III]. Irving developed a good relationship with the house of Murray, even dubbing John Murray [II] the 'prince of booksellers'. The correspondence includes discussion of his works, copyright issues, his travels, proposals for new works and discusses other publications.
