Unbound manuscript music., 1743-19th century, undated

 File
Identifier: MS.3352 [Ing.305]

Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows.

(i) Military airs, almost all mentioned in the history of military music (MS.3353) which they were intended to illustrate. They are taken from various sources, such as the Dalhousie and Macfarlane manuscripts and a manuscript music-book of Charles Kirkpatrick Sharpe, and include transcripts of two manuscripts of William Byrd's Battle Piece. So far as possible, they have been arranged in the order in which they are mentioned in MS.3353, to the sections of which they bear references. (Folio 1.)

(ii) Old airs, chiefly Scottish, copied from the same sources as those in (i), or from similar sources. (Folio 158.)

(iii) Italian songs by Johann Simon Mayr and others, 1743, undated. (Folio 214.)

(iv) Music all or mostly of the nineteenth century. (Folio 251.)

(v) Waltzes composed by 'Alessandro Selva' (Alexander Wood Inglis), including orchestral scores, and brass-band scores and parts, of those contained in MSS.3347-3349. (Folio 261.)
