Scope and Contents

Working notes, 1999-2000, of Ian Rankin and Christopher Penfold. Folios 1-30.

The notes include research and information on character, plot, and backstory development, research on heroin and cocaine usage, customs, Fraserburgh, more. As most of the notes are undated, evidence of development and changes in theme and plot have been used to inform the arrangement.

Includes working synopsis of ‘Lazarus’. Folios 20-30.

Editorial notes, 1999-2000, of Ian Rankin, BBC, Jackie Malton, and Christopher Penfold. Folios 31-63.

Most of the notes are undated and, as such, the arrangement has been suggested by a comparison of changes in plot and theme.

Folio 63 is out of order, it is an early working note on the verso of a postcard.
