Posters designed by Alasdair Gray for exhibitions, plays, readings and other events, as well as promotional artwork for some of his novels.

There is a mix of original drawings, paintings and paste-ups, as well as prints and reproductions.

Many of the posters in this collection were reproduced in 'A life in pictures' (Canongate, 2009).

Arrangement

The posters have been arranged by theme: student posters, exhibition posters and theatre posters, followed by a file of smaller posters, fliers and leaflets, and then some further large posters which were added at a later date.

Most of the posters are mounted and many of the smaller items have been mounted together. Where this is the case it has been noted in the arrangement note of each poster.
