The contents of the volume are as follows:
(i) Interest account between the trustees on the estate of Dundas and John Dundas, Writer to the Signet, 17 April 1775-17 January 1785. Some of the material is duplicated or overlapping. It includes calculations of interest (folio 1).
(ii) Interest account between George Dundas of Dundas (died 1792) and John Dundas, Writer to the Signet, 29 April 1785-6 February 1792: account and vouchers (folio 49).

The 'Elegantiae Simulae Inusitatae...' begins on folio 4, and the 'Sententiae Celebriores...’ begins on folio 24. The same hand has added extracts from Gellius and Ennius and notes on Roman measures and money on folios 1-3, and calculations on folios 11-17. The name William Paterson and the dates 1704 and 1707 appear on front and back covers. There are some notes in Lord Milton's hand on folios 17-18. Leaves have been torn out at various points.

The notebook is lacking a few leaves.
The notebook contains names of ironmongers and coal-suppliers, apparently in continuation of MS 20577(i). It was later used for studies in Arabic, including a glossary, written probably whilst J B S Haldane was serving in Mesopotamia; and afterwards for mathematical calculations. A poem on the experiences of Haldane in Mesopotamia is written at folio 40.
