Content Description

Presentation autograph score of William Wallace's arrangements for voice and piano of six poems by Heinrich Heine. Dated 1888, and inscribed to "Mrs Young". Contains arrangements of the following: 1. Ein Jüngling liebt ein Mädchen; 2. Wenn zwei von einander scheiden; 3. Ich hab im Traume geweinet; 4. Ich stand in dunkeln Träumen; 5. Vergiftet sind meine Lieder; 6. Mädchen mit dem rothen Mündchen.

Dates: 1888

Copy in an apparently twentieth-century hand of the piano score of ‘Don Quichotte’, a ballet by Petipa to music by Minkus, which was first performed in 1869.

The markings and deletions in pencil and crayon are presumably in the hand of Th. Wassileff, whose name is stamped on the flyleaf and elsewhere in the score.

Scope and Contents

A typed programme note tipped in at the front (folio 1) of MS.21888 records that the first performance of the work was given in the Usher Hall, Edinburgh, 1930, and the second (and first broadcast) performance was given at Bournemouth, 1932. A fragment of the printed programme records the other works played.
