Sketchbook and rough journal of John Francis Campbell combined for 1868 and early 1869., 1868-1869.
The first part of the volume deals with a visit Campbell made to Norway from July to September 1868 (folios 14-145) and travels in Scotland and England made from October to December of the same year.
There is also a section on the Kildonan goldrush of 1869 with press cuttings and related correspondence, and at the end of the volume are several pages of notes concerning coal-mining and the Coal Commission.

There is also a series of pencil sketches at the back of the volume of various people Campbell encountered during court cases he attended while studying law. In some cases, he gives a brief note on the proceedings.
A printed extract from Campbell’s pamphlet, ‘Notes on the Stature of the Lapps’ is inserted between folios 64 and 65.

Small pocketsize hardback sketchbook containing 96 pages of ink drawings. Images are untitled and undated. Subject matter consists primarily of character studies of individuals. Artist has supplied the creation date of 'circa 1970', and a manuscript note on the inner back cover gives her address as 60 Elm Park Road, London at the time.
