Scope and Contents

The contents are as follows.

(i) Certificates of registration of births, baptisms, marriages, and deaths, 1828-1864. (Folio 1.) (ii) Masonic and military certificates, and passports, 1847-1878. These include a passport to Venezuela and a certificate issued to Sir George H Scott-Douglas on a visit to the Holy Land. (Folio 17.) (iii) School reports of Sir George Brisbane Douglas, 1867-1872. (Folio 26.) (iv) Recipes, chiefly for puddings, 1790, undated. (Folio 57.) (v) Prayers, epitaphs, riddles, and poems, 1800-1904, undated. Included are two printed poems by Sir George Brisbane Douglas. (Folio 68.) (vi) Notes for speeches, 1834-1901. Most of these were made by Sir George H Scott-Douglas, but there is also a copy of an address given by the Duke of Wellington. (Folio 103.) (vii) Certificate of consecration of the mausoleum at Springwood Park, 1838. (Folio 119.) (viii) Printed race programme of the Grand Military Steeplechase, Corfu, 1846. (Folio 121.) (ix) Key to the makers' marks of Toledan swordsmiths, 1849. (Folio 122.) (x) Proposal form for life assurance, completed by Sir George H Scott-Douglas, 1859. (Folio 124.)
