Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series: Douglas James William Kinnaird (1788-1830) was an intimate friend of Lord Byron. Kinnaird was banker for the poet and after Byron went into self-imposed exile in 1816, Kinnaird also acted as his power of attorney in Britain. As a result, there are hundreds of letters between the two, as well as letters of Kinnaird to John Murray II and John Cam Hobhouse. Scope and Contents Douglas James William Kinnaird (1788-1830) and Lord Byron were close friends and wrote to each other regularly. The level of correspondence increased after Lord Byron left England to live on the Continent following the breakdown of his marriage. Kinnaird acted as agent and power of attorney for his friend, which necessitated him becoming very involved in the business and private affairs of the poet.
